The team’s youngest player 18-year-old Valery Nichushkin has made it into the Olympic hockey squad due his solid performance in the NHL, Russia’s coach, Zinetula Bilyaletdinov, said.
“The choice of Valery Nichuskin is explained by the fact that we saw his game for Dallas during our trips to North America,” Bilyaletdinov told Russia’s Ice Hockey Federation’s website. “He is now in a very good shape. Somewhat it’s an advance, which must be justified by this extremely gifted and talented player.”
Russia’s hockey coach, Zinetula Bilyaletdinov, has announced his roster for the home Winter Games, with big names like Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Malkin and Pavel Datsyuk all on the lineup:

The reigning Olympic and World Cup downhill skiing champ, Lindsey Vonn, said that she’ll miss the Sochi Games as she won’t be able to recover from her knee injury in time.
“I am devastated to announce that I will not be able to compete in Sochi,” the American wrote on her Facebook page. “I did everything I possibly could to somehow get strong enough to overcome having no ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), but the reality has sunk in that my knee is just too unstable to compete at this level.”
Vonn injured herself during the World Championships 11 months ago. The 29-year-old then underwent a successful a reconstructive surgery, but aggravated her health problems in a crash during training in November.
With exactly a month to go before the opening ceremony of the XXII Winter Games, an Olympic Media Center has begun operating in the Russian city of the Sochi.
The state-of-the-art facility, which covers an area of 158,000 square meters, will become home to around 6,500 journalists during the Games.
