November 5, 2013 The Olympic flame visits Russian tundra The Olympic torch relay of the 2014 Sochi Winter Games visits the Russian tundra and its inhabitant reindeer on Sunday as it moved eastward. The Sochi Olympic Organizing Committee manager Andrei Chibisov was the single torch bearer in the northern Russian town of Naryan-Mar, where the temperature had already plummeted to minus 17 degrees Celsius.

The torch was lit in a ceremony attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin before setting off on its ambitious 123 day trek.

September 29, 2013 Sochi 2014 Flame lit in Olympia The Sochi 2014 Winter Games torch is ignited in Olympia, Greece. The legendary flame was lit from the sun’s rays in the ancient Temple of Hera by a high priestess, with the aid of of a special mirror. It was then handed over to athletes for the first stage of the Olympic torch relay.
